Auxiliary Support Group
In action long before they were officially organized, the Camp Taylor firefighters' wives were an essential part of the smooth running operations even though they didn't actually fight fires. Women answered the phones, sounded the alarm, served coffee, cleaned the station and equipment, raised funds and in all ways supported the department and the efforts on behalf of the Crusade for Children.
Evolving from a natural participation in the social gatherings of the close knit volunteer fire fighters in the late 1940's, the Ladies Auxiliary was formalized in the 1950's. Through various fund raising activities, such as fish fries, movies at the firehouse and concessions, they graveled the parking lot, bought serving utensils and drapes for the firehouse, and bought equipment such as a cutting torch. They helped furnish the Ladies Lounge, kitchen and other areas at both stations.
Today the Auxiliary is made up of both men and women who are spouses, friends and family of the District and firefighters.
The Auxiliary supports the firefighters by taking food and drinks to large fires, and cooking for the members during stand-bys, bad weather and disasters.
They also help the community with Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets; sponsored the Red Cross Bloodmobile; donated to the MDA, the Home of the Innocents, and the Crusade for Children.
The Auxiliary has always participated in the county wide Auxiliary meetings, where all county auxiliaries come together to share ideas and solve problems.
The Camp Taylor Auxiliary meets the months of April, May, Sept, Nov, On the 2nd Tuesday at Station 1,
located at 4649 Poplar Level Road. @ 7:30 P.M.
